SLA prints, sanded and painted
5 objects, each 7.5 x 5.3 cm
in collaboration with
Florian Illy and Roee Cohen

Through a process of prototyping, the project investigated translations between different representations of image content and examined the transformations introduced by non-professional participants who were responsible for different stages of production.

Starting from an initial idea, the process moved through a found-footage photograph, a ready-made 3D model, its modification based on the idea and the photograph, and finally the SLA print of the resulting digital file.
The translations reflected a complex web of paid service, friends’ favors, autodidactically acquired skills, and the existing and absent motivation to perform the translations in the best possible way.
On the one hand, it became apparent that motivation was not uniformly dependent on the payment promised by the client.
On the other hand, the hierarchical structure of the actors in relation to each other was caused by one person who was the commissioning party in the cooperation. It reduced motivation and participation in the creative process and did not lead to a collective project, although a common interest could be assumed due to the commodification of the relationship.
